Desperate Housewives..

Posted by admin On April - 19 - 2010

Something happened every so often on most of the shows that would signal that the writers were out of ideas: A serial killer would appear and start offing people. And, truly, the bar was low for those shows, but the murderous storyline would land like a big ol’ pointless ton of bricks. So what was that thud you just heard on Wisteria Lane? Yup, the once-hot Desperate Housewives just landed  its own serial killer storyline. Wah-wah…

Granted, the Fairview serial killer has been terrorizing the town since early in the season when Julie nearly bit it and that one coffee shop girl died. But last night, it finally heated up and we learned the identity of the killer: Preston’s shaggy-haired friend, a character whose name wasn’t even uttered during the sub-par episode. The storyline strikes me as strange because I don’t feel much affinity for this serial killer — or the women he’s targeted so far. Julie? I could take her or leave her — she’s mostly annoying and seems so inconsequential. The coffee shop girl? I didn’t even know who she was. And Preston’s former fiancé Irina? Good riddance to bad rubbish! (Last night’s hour only sealed my hatred for her, what with her continual plot to screw over Preston and all.) Why, exactly, should I care that this guy is killing non-important characters on Wisteria Lane? If anyone can tell me that, I’m honestly all ears.

I suppose I’m expected to shake in anticipation of the moment — soon maybe? — when Preston’s shaggy-haired friend tries to kill one of the ”important” ladies on the street. From what EW scoopmaster Michael Ausiello has told us, it sounds like Lynette is the person who will take the brunt of this kid’s future plans in the season finale when she’s delivering her baby. But, c’mon, in the end, we all know none of the four principal ladies will bite it.

Supernatural’s 100 Episodes recap..

Posted by admin On April - 16 - 2010

The little show that began as a road trip through the demon-filled American back-country is officially 100 episodes in — and oh, how things have changed since the beginning. [SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT.] Remember when Dean and Sam were two young demon-hunters, off in a sweet ride of a car to search for their father, who taught them all they know about the supernatural? Staring in the devilish face of a fight like they’ve never seen before, I imagine Dean and Sam are longing for the days when their biggest problem was following dad’s trail. Personally, I’m not. That’s not to say those days didn’t produce quality entertainment. Many of the episodes from what I’ll call ”the simpler days” made my list of Supernatural’s 10 Best Episodes (a task that produced new levels of pain in my soul, which I’m not sure I’ve recovered from quite yet).

But take into consideration what they’re facing now: Lucifer and archangel Michael kind of make the Yellow-Eyed Demon look as threatening as a can of expired dollar store-brand condensed soup — a little scary in theory, but you’d face it in a life or death situation. And I’m happy to report that the subtle transformation of the show from a fun ride-a-long in the Impala into a mythology-packed roller coaster ride came to a head in ”Point of No Return.” It was the welcome mat to what I anticipate to be the grand finale of the show’s evolution and functioned just as a 100th episode should. It had a big twist (in the form of lovechild Adam Winchester’s return), a death (good riddance, Zachariah), an ass kicking (In Cas’ defense, Dean kind of deserved it), and guaranteed our attendance at episode 101 (Where did Castiel go?!). And I liked it. So let’s talk episode, specifically the 10 lines that deserve a closer look.

Action/adventure channel AXN will launch a high-definition version in south-east Asia from May. Carriage on two unnamed platforms has already been secured.

SPE Networks is rolling out the HDTV version in south-east Asia following its launch in South Korea in March 2009. In South Korea, AXN HD is available on DTH platform, SkyLife, as well as all three IPTV platforms – Korea Telecom’s Qook TV, LG Dacom’s myLGtv and SK Broadband’s broad&tv.

Ricky Ow, Senior Vice President and General Manager, SPE Networks, Asia, said: “With the HD wave gathering momentum in Southeast Asia, and the rewarding results we received in Korea, we believe the time is right to expand AXN HD’s presence in this region. Besides the two major platform deals, we are also negotiating for additional carriage so that more viewers will get to experience AXN’s brand of high impact action and top-notch entertainment in the best visual quality.”
